Eagle Creek Academy Middle School Chess Team has been checkmating opponents left and right as the team recently continued their undefeated streak.
The team defeated top-rated Bates Academy on Dec. 1 in the Metro Scholastic Chess Tournament. With the win, Eagle Creek remained one of three teams that remain undefeated in the Metro Scholastic Tournament.
The team hopes to continue their winning streak when they play this Saturday at Detroit Central High School. From there, the state tournament is in February at Eastern Michigan University, and the nationals are in April in Dallas.
This is the second year Eagle Creek Academy has had a chess club, and the first year the team has competed. The team is comprised of nine students.
Eagle Creek Academy also has an elementary chess team. They are tied for third in the Metro Scholastic Tournament.
