Hockey’s a family tradition

Blackhawk Hockey has become a family affair.
Since 2003, a set of siblings have played on the team every season.
During the 2003-2004 season, brothers Chris Nuccio (junior) and Troy Nuccio (senior) played together for two seasons. Later, in the 2005-06 season Jeff Hammond and his little brother Doug Hammond also played two seasons on the team together. During the same two seasons, junior Sean Doyle played with his younger brother Ryan Doyle (sophomore). Junior J.T Weddings is waiting for his little brother to enter high school so they can possibly carry on the tradition for the 2008-2009 hockey season.
The tradition continues in the 2007-08 season, when senior Nick Foren and his little sister, freshman Casey Foren, will both line up on the Blackhawk defense lines this year.
‘I have played since I was 5-years-old,? said Casey, the youngest lady to play on the team. ‘And I’ve have played with the boys my entire life, so I’m used to it. But it’s different playing with my brother because I have never played on a team with him before’we even play on the same line.? ‘It is intimidating being a freshman and playing with older players.?
Casey, who played on House Teams at Ice Mountain in Burton and a travel team, is not the first young lady to play varsity hockey at Brandon, but she is the youngest. During the 2001-2002 Jessica Duquette played for the team as a junior.
The Brandon varsity hockey team’s games started in the begining of November, and their next game is at 6 p.m. Nov. 24 at Fraser Sports Arena against Untica Ford II.
