Ground breaking for new Brandon Elementary School

Brandon Twp.-School officials, students and a host of area residents gathered on Monday for the ground breaking of the new Brandon Elementary School.
The $14 million building project should be completed for the 2009 school year and will include a 64,000 square-foot building to replace the aging H.T. Burt Elementary School. The project will also provide a soccer field, playgrounds and natural areas as outlined in the recent $73 million district bond extension OK’d by voters earlier this year.
At a cost of $937,875, the Brandon School Board Ok’d the purchase of the 75.03 acre parcel near Oakwood and Hadley roads for a new elementary school on April 9. The board also purchased 2.5 acres of frontage along Oakwood Road to access the 75.03 acres.
