The Clarkston boys soccer team could not have drew up a better first week. The Wolves went 3-0 and allowed just one goal, which was an own goal, and outscored their opponents 10-1.
The Wolves began the season by defeating Waterford Kettering 2-0 on August 21. Clarkston followed that by besting Holly 6-1 on August 22 and ended the week with a 2-0 victory over Catholic Central.
‘They did really well. They did what they were supposed to do, win games,? Clarkston soccer Coach Adam Bican said. ‘What these boys need to do is learn how to win and learn how to put teams away. That was one of our goals to begin the season and we have done that three games in a row.?
Junior Oliver Kupe scored four goals in the three wins, including two against Catholic Central.
‘He is going to be double and triple teamed all night,? Bican said. ‘He has to be physically strong enough to withstand what comes at him and he was. His speed, presence and power all showed tonight.?
The Wolves defense has been stingy this season. Sophomore goalkeeper Scott Messer has two shutouts this season.
‘The boys are really organized and they take pride in defense,? Bican said. ‘A big part of that has been our goalkeeping. Scott Messer has really come through for us.?
Clarkston took on Stoney Creek on August 29, which finished too late for this addition of The Clarkston News. The Wolves then face rival Lake Orion on August 31.
