Under new Head Coach Adam Bican, the goal is clear for the Clarkston boys soccer team: contend for the OAA I title and make a run in the playoffs.
‘We are going to go one game at a time, but one of the season goals is to win the OAA I,? Bican said. ‘We also want to win our district, our regional and contend for a state championship. I think that’s everybody’s goal.?
The Wolves return four starters from last year’s team led by junior Oliver Kupe and senior Jake Przybycien.
‘I think Oliver Kupe is definitely one of the top players in the conference,? Bican said. ‘His acceleration is unbelievable. He’s extremely quick. He has good vision and physically he is really evolving. Jake Przybycien is a leader. He has incredible vision and is extremely calm under pressure.?
Kupe said he thinks the team should do well in the league and in the state playoffs.
‘We all have really good touch on the ball,? Kupe said. ‘We are a lot faster than past teams, not as big, but a lot faster. Me personally, I would like to get all-state honors. I want to help the team win as many games as we can.?
Other key players for Clarkston include sophomore Kevin Pinkos, Colin Rumschlag and sophomore goalkeeper Scott Messer.
Bican said the team is young this season, but he wants the team to start playing the game the right way.
‘The strength of the team is we are going to be able to possess the ball this year,? Bican said. ‘Clarkston soccer is going to be able to involve into a ball possession team. I think physically we are a fit team. We do have a long way to go, but we are making a lot of progress. We are all on the same page.?
Clarkston kicked off its season on August 21 against Waterford Kettering. Results were unavailable for this edition of The Clarkston News.
