In a pair of high-scoring contests, it was the Brandon varsity baseball team that had a little bit more firepower than their Goodrich counterparts.
The Blackhawks outlasted the Martians in the May 24 twin bill at Brandon, winning the first game 11-7 and the second game 17-7. Andy Harding was the big hitting star for the Blackhawks, going 6-for-7 with two home runs and 11 RBI in the two games.
The two teams combined for 42 runs in the two games, but they were both subpar defensively, committing a total of nine errors in the twin bill.
‘Not a particularly well-played game on either side,? Goodrich coach Bob Foreback said.
In the first game, the visiting Martians took the early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run double by Ty Purdy and a bases-loaded walk to Bobby Short. However, the Blackhawks answered with a Harding three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning to tie the game at three.
