Brandon’s girls track team closed out the Flint Metro League regular season as the team to beat in the league meet.
The Blackhawks clinched an undefeated record in the regular season with a 100-37 win against visiting Fenton in a May 15 meet. Brandon improved to 7-0 in the league, while Fenton fell to 4-3.
Sarah Bond and Savannah Stedman each won two field events for the Blackhawks. Bond won the shot put (40?5?) and discus (133?6-1/2?), while Stedman won the long jump (14?5?) and high jump (5?2?).
Megan Ostrowski completed the Brandon clean sweep of the field events by winning the pole vault (8?6?).
The Blackhawks also won two relay events against the Tigers. The 3200 relay team of Kelly Wilson, Kelsey Carmean, Kristen Williams and Kayla Doan won in 10:24.3, while the 400 relay team of Jamila Richardson, Alyssa Tierney, Danielle Westphall and Danyl O’Berry won in 53.8.
Other Brandon event winners were: Norissa Sockwell in the 100 hurdles (17.2); Doan in the 1600 run (5:41) and 800 run (2:32.6); Janessa Fahr in the 300 hurdles (51.6); Westphall in the 200 dash (28.7); and Carmean in the 3200 run (11:52).
Meanwhile, the Brandon boys team fell to Fenton 90-47. Jawan Simpson was one of the bright spots for the Blackhawks, winning two events, the 100 yard dash (11.4) and the 200 yard dash (23.8).
The Blackhawks also took first place in two other individual events: Mitch Walker in the discus (130?7?) and Nick Mackie in the 300 hurdles (41.7). In addition, the 1600 relay team of Josh Tolan, Jake Hardy, Kevin Gibson and Mackie won in 3:40.5.
The Blackhawks were scheduled to take part in regional competition Friday, May 19. Their next meet is the Flint Metro League meet Wednesday, May 24 at Linden.
