Senior Meredith Mayberry had a goal in two straight games as the Goodrich varsity soccer team kept an eye on the Genesee Area Conference lead.
On Friday, May 5, the Martians defeated Lake Fenton 3-1, as Mayberry, Arielle Robinson and Katie Bradley notched a goal apiece. Bradley’s goal came on a penalty kick.
With the win, the Martians improved to 8-3-3 overall and 6-1-2 in the league.
However, Coach Nigel Barnett said Danielle DiSimone sustained a knee injury during the game and could be out for the rest of the season, depending on how doctor’s exams turn out.
As far as his team’s play is concerned, Barnett said the Martians need to maintain the level of play they showed against Lake Fenton.
‘We’re playing very well right now, but we need to be more consistent,? he said.
On May 4, the Martians shut out LakeVille 1-0, as Mayberry scored the game’s lone goal. Brittany Beard recorded eight saves in net for the Martians.
