Brandon’s varsity softball team has recently put the clamps on other teams? offenses.
The Blackhawks recorded back-to-back shutouts in a May 8 doubleheader at Holly, winning the first game 4-0 and the second game 6-0. Brandon increased their winning streak to 11 games and improved their record to 16-6 overall and 8-0 in Flint Metro League action.
Senior pitcher Jill Perry recorded a shutout in both games for the Blackhawks.
In the opener, junior Lauren Ross and sophomore Jennie Sherman went 2-for-4, while in the nightcap, junior Chelsea Wengren went 3-for-4 with two RBI. Senior Jessica Liebner, freshman Kim Michal and Sherman each added two hits for the Blackhawks in the second game.
Brandon’s varsity softball team also shut down the four teams they played against during the May 6 Brandon Invitational.
The Blackhawks went 4-0 at the invite, culminating with a 14-0 win against Millington in the final game, to win the tournament championship. In the process, Brandon, which has won nine straight games, improved to 14-6 on the season.
Perry struck out nine Millington batters in the five-inning game while shutting out the Cardinals. Perry also earned victories in a 5-0 game against Port Huron Northern and a 2-0 game against Livonia Stevenson, while Michal earned the win in a 3-1 contest against Jackson Lumen Christi.
Liebner and senior Ashley Brady led the Brandon offense with six hits apiece in the tournament, while Wengren added four hits.
Brandon also dominated their May 1 doubleheader against visiting Oxford, winning the opener 11-0 and the nightcap 13-2. Wengren went 5-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI in the opener.
In the nightcap, Liebner went 4-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored, while senior Brooke Schaefer went 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Perry won both games on the mound for the Blackhawks.
