Brandon Twp.- More than 400 township residents lined the road leading to Brandon High School on Saturday morning during the annual spring clean up.
Towing rusted cars, lawn tractors and trailers of used tires, area residents arrived with a variety of debris collected from they countryside. The annual Spring Cleanup project year cost residents about $45,000 and is aimed at materials not picked-up by curb-side waste haulers.
Boyt Johnson, vice president for Flint-based Averill Recycling says waste collection in the township has leveled compared to the first two years of the project.
‘There’s still a lot of material but the last three years it’s seemed to taper off, ? said Johnson. ‘We recycle what we can of those items hauled in, but a lot of the materials is still sent to the land fill.?
Johnson said recycled items include, tires, batteries along with tons of the steel can be recycled by Averill.
