Students at Blanche Sims Elementary will again read to help support ‘Paws with a Cause? during the month of March.
As part of reading month, the students will collect pledges with proceeds going to ‘Paws.?
As part of a March 3 assembly, the students got to see what their fundraising efforts from a year ago helped to accomplish.
On hand was college student Deanna Pardo, whose dog Timber has helped her with many simple tasks, such as picking up dropped items, answering the phone and even calling for help.
Representatives from ‘Paws? were also present to give a short demonstration on all the things their dogs are trained to do.
And, of course, there were some dogs, both big and small, on hand for the students to see up close.
Members of the school’s student council helped to explain this year’s theme: ‘Go for the Gold with Reading.?
In keeping with the recent Olympic spirit, students will get a gold medal if they reach certain reading goals.
Some stuffed animals are will also be given away as prizes for some lucky readers.
