The Lake Orion defense of their OAA I wrestling championship fell just short as Clarkston edged the Dragons in the league tournament on Feb. 10.
Coupled with their perfect 7-0 dual meet record, the Wolves were crowned outright league champs.
The Dragons were 6-1 in the dual meet portion of the season and could have earned a share of the title with a win in the tournament.
LO had seven individual finalists and two league champions, but their 181 points as a team was bested by the 192.5 of Clarkston.
Troy finished a distant third with 106.5 points.
Jake Varilek beat Mitch Miller of Clarkston 9-4 to win the title at 135 pounds and Shane Tobin got past the Wolves? Steve Herron 4-1 to win at heavyweight.
Spenser Gzradzinski (103), Joe Graffeo (140), Ian Rocheleau (145), Allen Sigler (160) and Scott Avery (215) were all second in their respective weight classes.
Clarkston had five individual champions to go along with their two second place finishers.
The team will next compete with all three Rochester schools in district competition on Feb. 15. Individual districts are on Feb. 18 at Kettering.
If victorious, regionals would be the following week.
