The Dragons needed every bit of five sets to get by a feisty North Farmington squad on Feb. 2.
After winning the first two sets with relative ease (25-12 and 25-18), LO hit a stumbling block losing back to back sets (24-26 in each).
That set up an exciting fifth set that saw the Dragons return to their dominant ways 15-8.
Sarah Brown had 32 assists for the host Dragons. Kristin Larsen added 21 kills and 14 digs.
Also for LO, Cortney Kimmel was 16 of 16 serving for ten points and four aces. Ashley Bringard and Rachel Bemman each had 14 kills.
The team then finished second with a strong showing at the Essexville City by the Lake Volleyball Invitational on Feb. 4.
The Dragons beat Elkton-Pigeon-Bayport, the 10th ranked team in class C, in the semis before falling to Freeland 15-17 in the decisive final set of the championship.
On the day, Larsen had 67 kills, Brown had 103 assists and Chrissie Janello was 54 of 54 serving.
Back in league action on Feb. 6, the Dragons bested Royal Oak Kimbal in straight sets.
The team was led in that victory by Kaitlin Denton’s eight kills and Hillary Vigilant’s ten assists.Bringard was 16 of 17 serving for 11 points.
After beating Kimball, the Dragons are 8-2 in league play and 21-12-3 overall.
