As people from all over the world flock to Michigan to witness Super Bowl XL history, places for them to stay are becoming scarce.
Major hotel chains fill up and send people further and further from the Detroit area, bombarding even small bed and breakfasts like Clarkston’s Milpond Inn.
Many are coming in too late, according to Millpond owner Joan Kopietz, who said the Millpond has been booked for the Super Bowl since early December.
Kopietz said she receives on average two or three new requests a day for rooms, and is sure she could have booked the Millpond three-to-five times the building’s capactity by now.
‘I’ve been turning business travels away all week,? said Kopietz. ‘There’s no rooms left for them.?
Even with the major influx of traffic from Super Bowl fans, Kopietz is not surprised by turn-out and is fairly used to selling out over a single event.
‘That’s not unusual,? Kopietz said, adding that events like the Ryder Cup and at the Palace of Auburn Hills usually fill up the inn’s five rooms.
Likewise, Kopietz expected requests to keep coming even though the Super Bowl is so close.
‘When the teams were decided, the teams get a certain amount of tickets and their fans, they’re not booking anything until they know they’re going to the Super Bowl,? Kopietz said.
As far as the game is concerned, Kopietz could not care less who wins.
‘I’m not into sports, she said. ‘I’m too busy to be.?
