An artist of a different color

Local artists, all of them outstanding in their field, are providing original contemporary works for the Vincent Van Whoa auction at Frames N? Art on Nov. 17 to benefit OATS (Offering Alternative Therapy with Smiles) therapeutic riding barn on M-15.
All of the artist’s involved with the wine and cheese affair also have day jobs at OATS where they double as horses used for therapeutic riding treatments.
The horses don’t paint alone though. The volunteer staff at OATS sweetens some water-based paint with apple juice and oats. The horses dive in for the food, once their muzzle is saturated with dripping color, more oats are spread on a canvas, which is then held up to the horse’s mouth.
Once the process is repeated with several different colors, the result is a unique brand of modern art. In past auctions at OATS events, sold pieces brought in between $110-$180.
The benefit at Frames N? Art runs from 6-9 p.m. on Nov. 17. Frames N? Art is located at 5889 Dixie Highway.
