Mt. Morris soundly defeats GHS gridders

By the time the Goodrich varsity football team knew what hit them, the Mt. Morris Panthers were on their way to victory.
Mt. Morris scored 25 points in the first half on their way to defeating the visiting Martians 38-20 in a Sept. 30 Genesee Area Conference Red Division contest.
With the win, Mt. Morris improved to 3-3 overall and 2-1 in league action, while Goodrich fell to 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the league.
The Martians scored their first touchdown in the third quarter on a 26-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Moncrieff to Eric Hughes. They added two more touchdowns in the fourth, a two-yard run from Moncrieff, and a five-yard run from Paul Burt.
However, by that point, Mt. Morris had already taken command of the game. The Panthers added 13 points in the fourth quarter for good measure.
Moncrieff was 9-of-21 passing for 148 yards for the Martians.
The Martians were scheduled to host LakeVille Oct. 7. The Falcons are 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the GAC Red Division after a 49-22 loss to Montrose Sept. 30.
Their next game is Oct. 14 against Corunna in a nonconference game. The Cavaliers are currently 3-3 after a 30-15 loss to Battle Creek Pennfield Sept. 30.
Last year, Corunna went 6-4 and qualified for the state playoffs, losing 35-6 to DeWitt in the first round.
