Brandon netters in hunt for Flint Metro championship

Brandon’s varsity girls tennis team continues to be a tough foe for its Flint Metro League opponents.
The Blackhawks defeated visiting Lapeer West 6-2 in a league matchup Sept. 20, improving to 5-3 overall and 3-1 in Flint Metro League play.
In singles action, Lynsey Crain and Jill Perry earned victories for the Blackhawks.
Brandon swept all four doubles flights against West. Annemarie Solley and Lauren Dixon (#1 doubles), Marilee Rump and Hanna Hubbard (#2 doubles), Holly Gerber and Laura Kwiatkowski (#3 doubles), and Shannon Elliott and Brittany Barber (#4 doubles) were all triumphant.
The Blackhawks also had a successful time at the Goodrich Invitational Sept. 17.
The Blackhawks took both their matches at the invite, defeating the host Martians 5-3 and then defeating Clio 7-0.
Perry was the lone Blackhawk to win in singles action against Goodrich, defeating Noel McAuliffe at #2 singles 7-6(2), 6-1.
The Martians took the three other singles flights. Meredith Mayberry defeated Crain at #1 singles 4-6, 6-0, 6-0; Natalie Iden defeated Megan Ostrowski at #3 singles 6-4, 1-6, 6-3; and Kristen Bentley defeated Rump at #4 singles 6-0, 6-1.
Brandon dominated doubles action, winning all four flights. Dixon and Solley defeated Sara Sweet and Nikki VanSumeren at #1 doubles 7-5, 7-5; Monica Lambert and Hubbard defeated Molly Downer and Rebecca Samuleson at #2 doubles 6-0, 6-1; Kwiatkowski and Gerber defeated Stephanie Bowers and Katie Feher at #3 doubles 6-4, 6-3; and Elliott and Barber defeated Ali Smith and Natalie Cook 7-6(2), 6-3.
