Local youngsters who may not have anything to do Friday nights now have an alternative.
Victory World Outreach Church, 10291 Green Road, Goodrich, is providing use of its gym from 8-10:30 p.m. on the first and third Fridays of each month. The first open gym was held Friday, Sept. 16, and will continue through April.
Children can play different sports and board games at the sessions. The only requirement is children age 10 and under need to be accompanied by a parent.
‘We’ve been doing it for eight years as a ministry to the community,? said the Rev. Jeff Stonerock, pastor of Victory World Outreach Church. ‘It gives kids a safe environment to play and get to know people in the community.?
Stonerock said in past years, the open gyms have drawn anywhere from 40-90 people, and there are always two or three adults supervising the open gyms.
‘The people around here love it,? he said. ‘The kids can come out here, and their parents can have a good evening. The kids have not presented any behavior problems.?
