Getting into the ‘swing? of it

If seeing is believing, then hearing must be a close nostalgic second.
The Stardust Swing Band, a 13-piece big band with vocals, brings the music of the 1930s and 40s to Senior Appreciation Night at Concerts in the Park.
Songs like ‘String of Pearls,? ‘Moonlight Serenade,? and ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy? are on the group’s play list.
Band member James Dignan discussed the importance of performing the songs as originally written.
‘If the audience closes their eyes, we’ll sound just the same as Glen Miller’s orchestra. They’ll be able to follow every single note and it’ll sound like you just played a 45 RPM record,? said Dignan.
The band has toured southeastern Michigan for the last three years and is composed of 14 members from the MetroDetroit area.
‘We’re trying to reproduce the music that was so popular in the 1930s and 40’s as it was intended to be played. It’s like preserving a ?56 Chevy? this was the music that carried the country through World War II,? said Dignan.
Dignan also said swing dancers typically show up making the evening fun to take part in, as well as to watch.
The Concerts in the Park series concludes July 22 at Depot Park. The opening act plays from 6:30?6:55 p.m. followed by the main act who performs until 9 p.m.
