Goodrich kids run for funds

Goodrich – Pledges won’t be totaled until later this week, but organizers feel the schools? Fund Run was a success.
This year’s Fund Run is a first for the Goodrich Parent Teacher Organization.
Desiree Rocheleau, PTO Fund Run coordinator, credits Goodrich parent Teresa Reneaud for the idea.
‘Teresa works in the Clarkston district and brought the idea to the PTO board,? said Rocheleau.
Students from Reid and Oaktree elementary schools, along with Goodrich Middle School ran, walked, or jogged laps to earn pledge money.
Inclement weather kept Reid and Oaktree children running laps through the halls or inside the school gymnasium. Students were given a rubber band to wear on wrists to keep track of laps on what amounted to a one-tenth mile track during 20-minute classroom-free intervals.
‘Parents thought it was a nice way to raise money, and let kids burn some energy. The kids wanted to stay and run some more.?
Once collected, funds will be used for curriculum-reinforcing programs, like field trips, storytellers, or the upcoming ‘Science Alive? program featuring hands-on animal education.
Of PTO funds, one-third of the money is allotted to teachers for classroom items to give curriculum a boost.
‘You have no idea how much of their own money teachers put into their classrooms,? Rocheleau said.
