The full cost of chloriding all public local and subdivision dirt and gravel roads in the township for 2005 will be paid for by Orion Township.
The cost for the township-wide program will be 24 cents per lineal foot, with that rate including four applications of chloride, as well as a fifth application or double one of the four applications.
A normal application is 2,000 gallons per mile per application. The board voted to go with the fifth application.
The funds have been budgeted for 2005, and the township will have the Road Commission for Oakland County do the applications.
Supervisor Jerry Dywasuk said the township has about 40 miles of dirt/gravel roads, and the township-wide program will only apply to public roads.
In regards to the already existing chloride SADs in the township, the board voted to keep the SADs open, but to reduce them to zero, as recommended by the township attorney, as long as the township participates in the township-wide program.
The zero assessment will show on tax bills, with an explanation note, until the SADs expire.
Any funds remaining when the SADs expire will be refunded.
