Members of the Independence Parks and Recreation Hershey Track team represented the area well at the Hershey Track and Field State finals at Holt High School on July 7.
The 400-meter relay team of Fransika Loetzner, Madison Wilson, Andrea Pangori and Alexis Yarnall took first place in the 9-10-year-old division.
‘They won it two years in the row,? Hershey Track and Clarkston Girls Track Coach John Yorke said. ‘They are excited about winning it two years in a row and they are excited to place at state meet. It’s a pretty nice accomplishment for them.?
Loetzner also took second in the 400-meters and third in the long jump.
Wilson finished in fifth place in the 50-meters and Yarnall took fourth place in the 200-meters.
In the 11-12 age group, the team of Nicki Kessman, Andrea Dumais, Paige Pankey and Colleen Napier finished in fourth place in the 400-meter relay.
Jocelyn Reemtsma took second place in the 200-meters and fourth in the standing long jump.
According to Yorke, every township has a Hershey Track program. Everyone at the Hershey Track and Field State finals had to qualify to be able to compete.
Each program holds practices throughout the season. The program is designed to teach the kids the fundamentals of track and field.
The Hershey Track program is run through parks and recreation and open to anybody ages 8-13.
