Girls Basketball lose to Fenton and Romeo

The past week on the court held yet more tough times for the Oxford Girls Varsity Basketball Team. Despite two loses, the ladies stepped up the pace a bit to narrow the point gaps.
On Sept. 21 the Lady Cats lost to Fenton on the road 52-45. Leading scorer for Oxford was Mykala Salquist with 18 points. Kacey Cookingham contributed 12 of own, going eight for ten on the line.
The Lad Wildcats continued on the road with a 49-46 loss to Romeo. Cookingham led the shooting this time with 14 points, including five field goals and going four for seven on the line. Megan Stumph added another 13 and Ally Zonsius came in with 10, including three field goals and going four for five on the line.
Oxford opened the game strong leading the first period 11-7; however, the ladies lost their momentum shooting only seven to Romeo’s 18 in the second. The Lady Cats returned after the half to fight back and lead in both the third and fourth, but Romeo’s lead from the second period was too large.
The varsity players stand 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the FML as they travel yet again for a matchup against Linden on Sept. 28. The Oxford ladies return to their home court on Sept. 30 to continue league competition against Brandon, and then face off against Holly on Oct. 7.
