Students suspended for homecoming pranks

Goodrich – High school administrators called homecoming pranks foul when several students strung dead animals at the school’s entrance.
Six of the high school seniors involved were suspended for the day after being identified to administrators by local police, said high school principal Kenneth Andrzejewski.
‘Even though a small minority of (seniors) were involved, a lot of kids in their class were offended that this was a result of other people in their class,? said Andrzejewski.
Other ‘somewhat innocuous? homecoming day acts included crickets and frogs let loose in the school, lard smeared on door handles, ‘seniors rule? chalk graffiti, placement of a large blue-and- gold cement rock on the lawn, banners draped over sidewalks, and names spelled out in duct tape on entry doors.
Although other pranks during Andrzejewski’s 19 years as principal have earned suspensions, capers performed by recent senior classes weren’t met with the same measure of discipline as with this year’s homecoming.
‘Those situations were not so repugnant,? he said.
While many students spent weeks planning for appropriate homecoming celebrations, administrators were met with a gory scene that day, and immediately called the school’s maintenance department to have the animals and mess removed.
It wasn’t until later in the day that students were identified and hearings held.
Students questioned insisted others were involved in the ‘road kill? series of pranks, but refused to give names.
The one-day suspension also resulted in participating football players? suspension from the game.
‘The road kill is what really tipped the scale for administrators,? Andrzejewski said.
‘We sent a message out this year in terms of that being inappropriate and how we would react.?
