Brandon’s boys cross country team started off their season on a positive note.
The Blackhawks finished in the upper half of teams competing at the Carmen-Ainsworth Cavalier Classic Sept. 2, taking third place out of eight teams in the Division II-III portion of the meet with 179 points.
Powers Catholic won the race with 18 points, while Orchard Lake St. Mary’s took second with 161. Goodrich’s boys cross country team also took part in the race, finishing fifth with 339 points.
Five of Brandon’s seven varsity runners placed in the top 25 to earn a medal. Brad Lawrence led the Blackhawks with a time of 18:16, followed by Trevor DeWitt (18:28), Chris Holton (19:07), Adam George (19:22), and Steve Sanday (19:44).
Rounding out the varsity squad were Eric Edhe (20:25) and Dylan Kent (21:47). Goodrich’s Jeremy Phan placed 20th overall (18:27.16).
Brandon returns to action Sept. 13 when they host Mt. Morris at 4 p.m.
