Ortonville-In 1904 G.N. Hart Hardware opened for business on the west side of South Street in downtown Ortonville. Later named DeLano Hardware the building was destroyed by fire in 1942. When a new building was erected in 1944, the tradition of suppling the community with a variety of goods and services unique to many villages continued. In 1945 Marv Featherston purchased the store and in 1965 bought the DeLauder and Borst Grocery next door doubling the size of the business.
Now, a century later the name has changed but the same quality of products and service can be found at Thompson’s Hardware. The public is invited to help celebrate the golden anniversary of the store with a special gathering.
From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 11, Thompson’s Hardware, 30 South St., Ortonville will host a 100-year anniversary with a day long gathering at their store. The event will include refreshments, prizes and other activities. Details (248) 627-3455.
