Kickers win against Davison, lose league opener

The Oxford soccer team opened up their week with a 3-1 win over Davison August 28.
Paul Ebenhoeh scored to tie the game with five minutes remaining in the first half. In the second half, Zac Wasylyna scored on a pass from David Kourtijan. Kourtijan returned later to score the final goal of the game on an assist from Bryan Ward.
In their first Flint Metro League match-up, the Wildcats lost to Linden, 6-2. Coach Thaler said both sides had numerous shots, but Linden was able to convert two early in the first half. Kourtijan was able to bring Oxford within one on a ball from Brandon McKay. However, Linden returned to add two more ending the half 4-1.
In the first five minutes of the second half, sophomore Francesco Paese scored his first goal of the season with a beautiful curling shot off the far post. Hardly ten minutes later, Oxford was awarded a penalty kick, but could not score.
Linden came back to quickly add two more goals. With ten minutes left in play, Oxford sophomore Ward collided hard with an Eagle, taking him out of the match. ‘The hard tackle may have caused some serious damage to his knee,? said Coach Thaler.
The Wildcats now stand 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the league as they prepare to travel away to Holly on Wednesday, Sept. 1.
After that, the next game is away against Fenton on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
