Jason Fleck, 28, is in Oakland County Jail charged with assaulting his girlfriend and a police officer. The incident took place on Bellevue Island Aug. 21 at 7:20 a.m.
According to Lake Orion Police Lieutenant Harold Rossman, officer Rob Barker was on patrol when he was stopped by a man worried about his daughter.
The father told Barker her boyfriend was threatening to kill her. The officer drove to a residence on Bellevue Island and the girlfriend answered the door.
Rossman said the house was a mess, with items busted and other things thrown around the room. Barker tried to talk to Fleck, but he became violent and allegedly verbally threatened to kill both Barker and the girlfriend.
Fleck lunged toward the woman and Barker grabbed his shirt, which Fleck managed to get out of. The two struggled for five minutes.
‘Pepper spray was used and it had no effect,? Rossman said. ‘A defensive strike with a baton was used with no effect.?
Fleck then grabbed a 35 pound table and threw it at Barker. Barker was slightly injured when he put his hand up to deflect the table.
With the help of the girlfriend’s brother, who had just arrived, Barker was able to handcuff Fleck. Rossman said when Barker took Fleck to his patrol car he suddenly became violent again. With his bare feet, he kicked out a rear window of the vehicle.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department and Orion Township Fire Department were also summoned to the scene to assist.
When firefighters tried to treat Fleck for his cut feet, he started spitting at them. One got hit in the eye.
In the mean time, Barker had gone back into the residence to interview the victim. He heard Fleck yelling and screaming. When he went out, he saw that the man had kicked out the other rear window.
Fleck was taken to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital for treatment of his cut feet.
‘I suspect he was on some kind of illegal substance,? Rossman said.
After his release from the hospital, Fleck was taken to Oakland County Jail.
Fleck was arraigned at Rochester’s 52/3 District Court on Aug. 24. He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (four year felony); destruction of police property (four year felony), assaulting, restricting, obstructing, causing police injury (four year felony); assault, obstructing fireman (two year felony).
He’s currently in jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
