Girl’s golf flying high with two wins

The Girls Golf Team is enjoying some much deserved success lately, defeating both Lapeer teams last week at the Lapeer Country Club.
The first victory, against the Lapeer East Eagles on April 29, came by a final score of 201-216. The Lady Wildcats have already secured second place in the Flint Metro League, but will not surpass the league leading Linden Eagles.
The second win, on May 3, against the Lapeer West Panthers saw Oxford register their highest score of the year, but they still managed to defeat the Panthers by a final of 214-244. According to Coach Kelly, the high score could be attributed partly to the effect of an extremely windy and cold day.
‘It got pretty cold out there,? he explained. ‘It’s tough to get your swing going right.?
Oxford was also without one of their better golfers, senior Kate Hubbard, which allowed a chance to some of the other girls who don’t normally get to compete.
The Wildcat’s leading scorers against Lapeer West were Beth Hubbard and senior Jacki Maher, each with a respectable score of 51. Junior Samara Carroll shot a decent round of 54, and Claire Hubbard shot a 58.
The Wildcat’s next match will be held on Friday, May 7, as the team takes on the Brandon Blackhawks at 3:30 P.M.
Mike Stechschulte is a junior at Oxford High School who plans to major in the field of journalism.
