James “Jim” Roy Recknagel, 83, of Lake Orion, Michigan passed away on January 29, 2025. Born on July 23, 1941, in Lake Orion, Michigan, he was the son of the late Roy and Mary Recknagel. Jim was a proud graduate of Lake Orion High School, Class of 1959. A Master Carpenter, he had a remarkable talent for remodeling homes, often incorporating recycling and upcycling to bring his creative visions to life. He retired from General Motors after 35 years of dedicated service as a carpenter. Jim was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Robert; his sisters, Patricia (Richard) Ketter, MaryAnn (Charles) Lisk, and Frances (Patrick) Sweeney; as well as his former wife, Delores (Ardelan) Recknagel, the mother of his children. He is survived by his children, Dennis (Karen) Recknagel, Debbie (Recknagel) Booth, and David (Sheri) Recknagel; his beloved grandchildren, Nathan (Cali) Recknagel, William (Sarah) Booth, Chelsey (Dave) Johnson, Allegra (Ethan) Kremkus, Veronica (John) Plotkowski, and Max Recknagel; and 10 cherished great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his former wives, Rochelle Mongene (1999) and Frieda Kesslering (2022). An avid outdoorsman, Jim found joy in hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and playing euchre and golf. He was also a skilled pool shark who loved the thrill of competition. Known for his warmth, generosity, and fun-loving spirit, Jim was deeply loved by all who knew him. Jim’s legacy of craftsmanship, love for the outdoors, and devotion to family will be treasured forever. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 3 p.m. at Sparks-Griffin Funeral Home in Lake Orion, Michigan. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service.
