Clarkston wrestling watched any hope of winning the league from their grasp as they went 1-1 at the double dual meet on Feb. 7. The Wolves bested Waterford Mott 46-36, but suffered defeat to West Bloomfield 39-38.
‘We had a more than one weakest link today,? said Clarkston Coach Joe DeGain.
Clarkston’s Braden L’Amoreaux, Josh McAllister and Steve Herron turned in dominant performances, but the rest of the team was pinned four times.
‘I know Clarkston had some guys out of the lineup, but that worked to our benefit tonight,? said West Bloomfield Coach Greg Alessi. ‘The league meet is going to be a battle.?
Clarkston starters Mike Maguire, Bryan Webb, Tommy Ellsworth and Steve Smiley had to sit out on Feb. 7 due to injury and illness.
‘The guys who were healthy and could be in the lineup were very aggressive and they had that no nonsense attitude,? said DeGain.
Clarkston now turns attention to the league meet on Feb. 11 at Lake Orion. The Dragons, who beat the Wolves 39-27 on Jan. 19, are first in the League at 6-1.
‘You always want to win league. It is a tuneup for the post season. We can still win the tournament and not the (league) title. That is our goal right now, to go in there and show everybody we’re still where we were in past years,? said DeGain
After the action on Feb. 7, Clarkston is now 8-10 (4-3).
