The Wolves head into the post season this week after finishing the regular season with a 18-5 win over Troy.
With the win, the Clarkston Boys Varsity Lacrosse team finished as undefeated in the OAA Red for the second – consecutive year, and undefeated at home for the last three years.
‘It was a special day,? said head coach, Brian Kaminskas.
The Wolves fired off shots against Troy and kept the Colts scoreless for 29 minutes of the game.
Junior Conner Ward began the attack with two minutes remaining in the first quarter as he broke the 3-3 tie with the Colts. Senior AJ Kowal added one more to close the quarter, 5-3.
Ward kept the momentum going opening the second quarter with two goals. He finished the game with seven goals and one assists.
Junior Reid Kaminski and freshman Keaton Mitchell both had two goals and two assist each.
Kaminskas added it was also a special win because it was senior day for nine players and the boys were coming back from a loss against DeLaSalle, 9-6. Senior Kyle O’Grady led with three goals.
‘It was a good response,? he added. ‘We had a good week of practice and effort all the way around. We talked after the game a little bit. We came back and got back into our system work. When you are in a little bit of a slump, the only thing you can do is keep doing what you do, and eventually it will go your way.?
He added the loss will help as they head into MHSAA Regionals this Thursday.
‘We needed it,? Kaminskas said. ‘We were pretty high on ourselves. You tend to believe your press every now and then – which can be good and bad. We needed to settle going into playoffs.?
The regions were realigned this season, putting the boys up against different teams.
‘It is nice,? Kaminskas added. ‘We have always had to play Brother Rice for the regional final. If we end up getting that far we will end up playing Holt in the final. They are a team we are familiar with and we can play with. We have had our eyes set on that trophy for three years so we are pretty focused.?
The boys head into the post season with a 13-2 record after a 12-6 win over Petoskey, May 11, and a 13-6 win over Birmingham Seaholm, May 9.
Ward led against Petoskey with five goals, and sophomore Andrew Williamson led against Seaholm with three goals.
The Wolves host the first round of regionals on Thursday at Clarkston Junior High School, 6 p.m. The girls team plays Waterford Kettering at Lake Orion High School, 7 p.m.
