Wolves eye Dragons next

Gridiron heroes are back on the road this week as they head to Lake Orion to face off with one of their biggest rivals.
The Wolves aren’t taking the Dragons current overall record 4-3 lightly.
‘It’s Clarkston/Orion – it will be a dog fight,? said Kurt Richardson, long-time head coach for the Clarkston Varsity Football team. ‘They have a great running game. The kids realize it’s Orion and they are going to bring everything they can at us. They can make their whole season by beating us.?
The boys added one more mark to the win column last Friday as they beat Troy, 43-14.
‘There were still too many penalties,? Richardson said after the homecoming victory. ‘We lost two touchdowns because of them. We had a couple of turnovers. We have to limit it.?
The Wolves continued their trend of taking control of the scoreboard in the first half as they posted 29 points.
They opened the game with possession of the ball and in five plays scored when quarterback DJ Zezula made a 17-yard touchdown run at 9:38.
The next touchdown came two minutes later from running back Centrus Williams, Jr. on a 8-yard run. Williams struck again in the second quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run.
Zezula made a 17-yard touchdown run with 6:14 remaining in the quarter and the boys finished the first half with a 29-7 lead.
Three minutes into the third quarter Williams ran up the middle of the field and through Troy’s defense to step into the endzone after his 10-yard run.
Fans in the bleachers were cheering two minutes later when running back Nolan Eriksen made a 70-yard touchdown run.
Troy scored with 51 seconds left in the game to finish the score at 43-14.
Zezula was 11-for-17 on passing for 162 yards. Joe Popp had three catches for 58 yards; Jack Fisher, four catches for 58 yards; and Shane Holler, three catches 35 yards.
Eriksen was the leading rusher for 112 yards on eight carries. Zezula had five rushes for 41 yards and Williams had six rushes for 36 yards and three touchdowns.
Kicker Alex Kessman was 4-for-5 on PATs and scored on 25-yard field goal.
Marco Rosario led defense with five tackles and one assist. Merrick Canada, Jack Selke, Nick Stalworth and Kyle Masters had three tackles each. Brandon Addis and Carter Linton both had an interception.
Richardson added during the week of practice all the boys made strides to improve and get better. The last few weeks he has noticed during games the Wolves are not where they need to be for the season.
‘Once I watch the film I will know better but I don’t think we are anywhere near where we need to be,? he said. ‘They have to stop the penalties – they are going to kill us.
The Wolves (7-0, 6-0 OAA Red) play at Lake Orion High School, 495 E. Scripps Road, on Friday. Kick off is 7 p.m.
