Hitters opened the season with their first three wins last week.
“We had a pretty good week,” said Clarkston Boys Varsity Baseball Coach Phil Price. “Our defense is really good. Our pitching and catching have been outstanding.”
The boys began the week with a double header and double win against Royal Oak, posting scores 12-1 and 10-2.
During the first game Andrew Fairse pitched in five of the six innings and gave up two hits and zero earned runs.
“He did a very nice job,” said Price.
Dylan Peck hit 2-for-5 in the game and had two hits and two RBIs.
“Our batters had a lot of walks,” said Price. “We had 15 walks. We didn’t get a ton of hits but they walked a lot of batters. We scored 12 runs and our whole defense was very good. “
The streak continued going into the next game where Vince Siwicki pitched and gave up only three hits.
“He pitched a great game,” Price added.
For hitting, Jake Sims was 2-for-3 with a double and a single. Chase Toth was 2-for-2 with a double and a single. Matt Rodgers was 2-for-3 with two singles.
“The top of the lineup did a tremendous job,” said Price.
The boys traveled on the road to Oxford last Wednesday to score their third win, 12-3.
Rodgers pitched for the first five innings and gave up only one one.
“He really dominated and did well,” Price said. “Defensively we were really good.”
Toth hit a double and Jared Sperry hit 2-for-4.
“Again quite a few walks,” added Price. “Our batters did a good job at battling at the plate.”
The Wolves took on their first loss on the windy, cold Friday early evening against Troy-Athens, 2-0. Fairse pitched for six innings and had four hits, two earned runs and four strikeouts.
“He had one inning that wasn’t a good inning for him but other than that he did good,” said Price.
Siwicki finished the rest of the game, keeping Athens at two runs.
“As a coach I am very pleased with our pitching,” Price added. “Though we lost Friday there were no errors by either team. We had four hits and they had four hits – it could have gone either way. “
The boys aim to continue to build to the winning column this week as they head into a busy week.
They opened the week on Tuesday against Lakeland and head to Avondale on Wednesday.
“Both are good teams,” said Price.
They come back for their annual Roy Warner Classic on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m.
Lakeland, Milford, Waterford Mott, Royal Oak and Birmingham Seaholm are set to play during the tournament.
Their Monday game against Lake Orion was postponed to May 19.
