Waterfall Jewelers began with the dream of Thomas F. Brown, Sr.
Beginning his career as a jeweler and manager of the Thomas Jewelry Company’s chain of stores, Brown would allow his children to work at the store each summer. The children attended work with their father, and took in all the sights in the business. As they grew older, the children became more interested in the company and were anxious to learn the ropes.
‘The allure of learning about the beautiful jewelry and Dad’s patient tutelage kept us coming,? said Thomas Brown, Jr.
The future of the children seemed inevitable. Even as youngster’s, Mom, Betty, would freeze her 18Kt. Gold bangle bracelets and bring relief to her little one’s aching gums during teething.
‘Dad used to get so upset and tell her that we would ruin the value of the bracelets,? said Thomas.
Years later, Betty cherishes the teeth markings left by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Thomas says the value of the story for him and his siblings is the balance they learned from both of their parents; and the value of beautiful things combined with the treasure of people and memories.
‘This unique balance has enabled us to transform a business of selling into a business of people,? said Thomas.
Whether selling a bracelet, diamond ring or necklace, the Brown children never forget there is a person behind the sale. Today, the children keep their father’s dream alive, through their own Waterfall Jewelers.
Waterfall Jewelers opened in 1979 and continues to run strong. The business philosophy is simple: a customer is the most important visitor in our business. He is not dependent on us. We are dependent on him. He is not an interruption in our work. He is the purpose of it. He is not an outsider in our business. He is a part of it. We are not doing him a favor by serving him. He is doing us a favor by giving us an opportunity to do so.
Waterfall Jewelers houses many staff members, and most of them are family members. Each of the staff offers extensive experience and each have specialized in the field with passion.
As part of the Clarkston/Waterford community for years, Thomas and his loyal staff have built many wonderful relationships. They also do many things for the community including: donating time to schools, youth organizations and other groups across Oakland County. Waterfall Jewelers also includes their customers in the donations, by encouraging them to donate to a charity for a free watch battery and sizing.
Waterfall Jewelers specializes in jewelry, but even more, the company and the staff specialize in family and friends – two things that keep this business successful.
