According to Oxford High School’s auto technology teacher, Dan Balsley, he’s never seen the class? annual brake competition end with such a close score.
‘This was one of the closest competitions I’ve ever seen,? he told the class Feb. 27, before announcing the winners.
Sophomores Nate Walters and Justin Werth took First Place with a time of 2 minutes, 58 seconds.
The competition challenges the student teams of two to completely disassemble and reassemble the rear drum brakes on at least two different vehicles.
Junior John Krug and sophomore Nick Welch took Second Place with a time of 2 minutes, 59 seconds ? just a fraction slower than the winners.
Third place went to juniors Anthony Barrett and Elliott Wicker with a time of 3 minutes, 20 seconds.
Each of the top three teams received a ton of prizes donated by the following generous local sponsors: Oxford NAPA, Oxford Bank, Rotary Club of Oxford, Snap-On tools, and the Oxford McDonald’s.
