When it comes to decorating your home for the holidays or just for everyday life, the Village Saltbox has exactly what you’re looking for.
Located in downtown Metamora, the Village Saltbox is home to 2,600 square feet of retail space, and is packed full of unique items, like prints, mirrors, clocks, teapots and wreaths ? just to name a few.
‘When I looked at it, I thought ‘oh, I’ll never be able to fill it up,? and now I’m trying to find places to put everything,? said Michele Griswold, who co-owns the store with her son Jonathan Griswold. Griswold’s daughter, Caitlin, also helps manage the store.
This weekend, the public can come and see just how many treasures can be found at the Village Saltbox. A customer appreciation night will be on Friday, Nov. 2, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.; and a Holiday Open House will be on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 4, from Noon-5 p.m.
Griswold, who is also a teacher at Scripps Middle School in Lake Orion, makes sure to coordinate all of the items that look well together at her store, so customers can get an idea of how to decorate their homes.
‘I’m trying to do a mix for people that like the Pottery Barn type things and people who like real traditional things,? she said. ‘A lot of stores just line things up on shelves and then you have to envision where it’s going to go.?
In the upper level of the Village Saltbox will be furniture, such as tables, chairs and buffets, for customers to purchase, as well as some antiques.
Alongside the vases, rugs and other home accents are the Saltbox’s scented candles, soups, dips and teas, which Griswold said are also big sellers.
This is the third home accessories shop Griswold has owned. She owned two in up-state New York before she and her husband, John, moved to Michigan 15 years ago.
Griswold’s goal is to make shopping at the quaint Village Saltbox a pleasant experience for all of her customers.
‘It’s more like an old-fashioned business because when you come in we don’t have sales people that are pushy,? she said. ‘We really listen and watch what people are buying.?
