Varsity bowlers improving, but drop to rival Oxford

The LO men’s bowling team lost a hard fought match to Oxford 16-14 at a packed Collier Lanes on Jan. 14.
Oxford won the first game 920-874 and held off a late charge in the second to win 951-833.
The Dragons rallied in the 8th frame of the second match with four consecutive strikes as a team. But Oxford was up to the challenge, answering with four strikes of their own in the ninth frame to clinch the match.
‘Oxford bowled great today,? said coach Kevin Crowther. ‘They turned it on when they had to.?
The Dragons, now 0-5 in the Northern Lakes High School Bowling League, were led by Greg Chernoby’s 373 series.
The women’s team also fell to 0-5, losing 26-4 to the Bye team.
‘Our goal is to keep improving and get ready to bowl well at regionals,? Crowther said.
The next conference meet is Jan. 22 at Wonderland Lanes in Walled Lake. All play begins at 1:30 p.m., but get there early to get a good seat.
Both varsity squads will travel to the Oakland County Championship meet a day earlier.
