The Wolves posted two wins last week as they continue building their momentum with playoffs starting in a few short weeks.
Their most recent venture took them to Ohio where they beat Toledo St. Francis, 17-7.
“It was terrific,” said Brian Kaminskas, head coach for the Clarkston Boys Varsity Lacrosse team. “We worked on a lot of individual ball technique all week. We made some adjustments in individual games the guys play. I thought we executed almost flawlessly. They did exactly what we asked them to do. As a result we dominated the whole game which is nice.”
The boys opened the first half with a 12-4 lead and made it impossible for St. Francis to take the lead away.
Senior Jordan Kincaid led the team with four goals during the game. Seniors Kevin O’Grady and Travis Craft scored three goals each; senior Sam Moore and sophomore Reid Kaminski score two goals each; and seniors Kevin Horton, Nick Demattia, Brad Leuenhagen added one goal each.
O’Grady added four assists, and Horton had three assists against St. Francis.
On the defensive end, Demattia had seven ground balls and a takeaway and senior Evan Kneisel had three ground balls and four takeaways.
“Both Nick Schuster and Jordan Stover, our faceoff middies, played exceptionally well,” added Kaminskas. “It was one game all 24 guys stuck up and had a great game.”
The boys out shot St. Francis 27-14.
The Wolves opened the week against Troy Athens on April 23 to win 7-3.
“It was flat out terrific,” said Kaminskas. “Traditionally they are a strong team, and they have good players on it. You could start to see the start of us getting confidence and starting to roll a little bit. We knew it was a big one for us. It was an OAA game and at home – those are two of our goals: win OAA and win all games at home. It is always nice to beat Athens and beat Athens at home.”
The Wolves dominated during the second quarter too by putting three on the board to their one from the first quarter. Athens scored three goals in the third quarter, but it was too late as Clarkston sank two more in the net.
O’Grady led the team with four goals, and Leuenhagen, Kincaid and Moore added one goal each to the game. Kincaid and Craft had one assist each.
Senior Adam Gohl had 14 saves for the night, and the Wolves made 17 shots on goal, bringing the boys to 6-2 for the season.
The boys opened this week against Farmington on Tuesday as they continue working towards winning the OAA league title.
“Farmington has a couple of athletic middies – smart with the ball,” Kaminskas said. “They have a long stick player we will have to work to break from. If we can go out, run our transition game the way we plan to run it, we should be fine. It will be an interesting week.”
They continue the week by heading to Rochester Adams.
“We have some nice momentum and confidence going in,” Kaminskas added. “We’re getting that last season momentum you want going into the last third of the season and going into playoffs. It is starting to come together at the right time.”
