Brandon Twp.- Two local men had a video arraignment May 14 in front of 52-2 District Court Magistrate Melinda Balian on charges of assault with intent to murder and assault with a dangerous weapon, following an attack on a neighbor.
Joshua Beurman, 26, and Jason Thyrion, 21, are being held in the Oakland County Jail on $500,000 and $250,000 cash surety bonds, respectively, with no 10-percent.
It was about 9:53 p.m., May 12, when Brandon deputies were called to the 3600 block of Pinoak Street in the Sashabaw Meadows Mobile Home Park. According to police reports, Beurman’s girlfriend was visiting this address, seeking refuge from Beurman, who was drunk and being verbally abusive. Beurman came to the residence looking for her, began yelling, and was asked by the 36-year-old male homeowner to leave. The pair fought and Beurman left, but returned minutes later with a golf club and Thyrion, who had an unknown edged weapon, says Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Tim McIsaac. The homeowner’s three young daughters were witnesses as Beurman struck the man on the head with the golf club and Thyrion slashed a 5-6 inch long laceration on his lower stomach.
The victim was taken to Genesys Regional Medical Center and required several stitches to close his wound. He is recovering at home.
Beurman, who also lives on Pinoak Street, and Thyrion, who had been staying on Birch Street in the park, both fled the scene, but were captured a short time later.
Both have previous criminal histories. Beurman was arrested in Oakland County for felony weapons/firearms receiving and concealing in 1999 and had an arrest in Kalkaska for operating while intoxicated third offense in 2003. Thyrion had a felony sex offense in Taylor in 2002 and a felony burglary in Wayne in 2003, as well as a felony drug possession in Cleveland that same year.
Beurman and Thyrion will have a preliminary examination at 8:30 a.m., May 25, at the 52-2 District Court in Clarkston in front of Judge Kelley Kostin.
