Traffic stop turns unusual for village police

On Oct. 21, Oxford Village police officers became faced with a suspicious circumstance when a call for a breaking and entering interrupted a routine traffic stop.
Two Oxford officers had a Lake Orion woman stopped on Glaspie St. for not having any backup lights on her vehicle when they found that she also did not have a license on her, proof of insurance or vehicle registration. In addition, the vehicle did not belong to her, but to a Pearl St. resident. While checking the woman’s background, officers received a dispatch for a possible breaking and entering at the Mill St. storage units.
The officers informed the woman she would be receiving citations for the lack of documentation and allowed her to leave.
After finding nothing at the possible breaking and entering on Mill St., the officers learned from dispatch that the call had come from the residence on Pearl St., where the owner of the vehicle they had just pulled over lived.
The officers went to the home and were informed by the resident that an unknown woman had come to the house asked to use the phone. The resident said the woman had reported the possible breaking and entering and not anyone in the residence. The vehicle they had previously pulled over was parked in the driveway, but the Lake Orion woman was no longer at the home.
The officers left the scene and labeled the case as suspicious. The woman will be receiving citations for driving without a license, without proof of insurance and without vehicle registration through certified mail.
