Oxford Twp. Parks and Recreation is finalizing details for the Seymour Celebration set for July 18.
The festivities begin at 3 p.m. with the ribbon cutting of the K.L.R. Splashpad and continue with fun-filled activities for the entire family. A fireworks show at dusk will finish the day.
‘We wanted to make it a whole day of festivities instead of just a ribbon cutting,? said Lauren Jacobsen, Recreation Developer for Enrichment and Special Events. ‘We are aiming for this day to be a fun family community event. It is a great opportunity to load up the family and come out for the day.?
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Department estimated there will 5,000 to 10,000 visitors throughout the day.
Activities planned for the day range from the annual Rough Tough Trucks, a car show, live entertainment, and program demonstrations in pickle ball, disc golf, fitness and a basketball hoop shoot.
Kids will be able to play on inflatables provided by Oakland Inflatable Units, a climbing tower and at Kid’s Kingdom.
Oxford Fire Chief Pete Scholz is putting together a fireball competition between the neighboring fire departments. During the competition two fire trucks will be across from each other. A ball will hang down in the middle and each side will use their fire hoses to try to get the ball past a certain point.
Jacobsen added if the weather permits there will be a hot air balloon launch.
A stage will be set by the Splashpad with demonstrations of pickle ball, Zumba, Zula hooping and local talent from Center Stage Dance Company, Sweetapple Children’s Theatre dancing and singing.
The Senior Line dancing group is also set to perform.
The day will conclude with a 20-25 minute fireworks display.
‘It is based in the back of our park so it will be shooting over the entire park,? said Jacobsen. ‘There shouldn’t be a bad seat in the house.?
Besides activities for the family, businesses will have booths set up to sell food or to provide information on their services.
‘If you have a business and want to advertise, it’s a great way to reach new customers,? said Jacobsen.
Visitors can also enjoy tasty treats from local restaurants and meeting with representatives from local businesses including Sam’s Club, Buffalo Wild Wings and Rainforest Cafe.
‘A couple of places will be bringing their mascots,? said Jacobsen.
She added if anyone is interested in being a vendor or have their car involved with the show to contact her. Businesses should contact her by July 10 to secure a spot on the fliers.
The cost per vehicle is $10 for advance tickets and $15 per vehicle on the day of the event. The cost includes admission into the Splashpad and entrance to the park.
Advance tickets can be purchased at Oxford Parks and Recreation office, 20 W. Burdick, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Tickets will also be sold on July 10 during the ‘Movie Night Under the Stars? at Devil’s Ridge Country Club.
‘We would love to have the Seymour Celebration become an annual thing,? said Jacobsen ‘We will also just see how it goes.?
