The Cross – A Right Relation

When Unity of Lake Orion purchased our present church building, there were three steel I-beam crosses placed in between the front porch and the church sanctuary.

We have had people suggest we take the crosses down. Admittedly, they were showing signs of weathering and care was necessary, but the symbolism of the cross was also thought to not be necessary to spiritual living.

What to do? How did I as a member and Unity Director feel about that?

It was interesting that this was in my life because the French meaning of my last name is “The Cross.” Knowing that, I have spent a lot of time in my life wondering if the cross held a bigger meaning for me. There was a time I felt knowing about the cross and accepting Jesus as our savior was a way to save us from awfulness, but that didn’t happen.

At some time in your life you may have heard someone say, “We all have our own cross to bear” — and you may have felt like you were on one at times. That was us, after a tragedy struck our family. We didn’t understand and there was no explanation. We just had to be faithful, trust, pick up our cross and move on.

Charles Fillmore co-founder of Unity said, “There is no burden in the cross to bear.” That when your conscious mind is aligned with God mind you are in a right relation with the forces of God.

A spiritual life is about learning to be in right relation with God mind. Living life spiritually shifts your energy and you gain a better understanding of life.

Practice spiritual living by looking at loneliness, homelessness, and circumstances beyond your control like wildfires or hurricanes. In each one of those thoughts you can feel hopeless and as if there is nothing you can do.

Yet, we can always do something! We can connect in right relation, with the consciousness of God. We do this through prayer and meditation.

As you sit in the stillness, remember to see with your mind’s eye that the not good drama is being crossed out! Hold a picture in your mind’s eye of joy and wellbeing. Don’t be concerned with what the good will look like, just allow God as Spirit to create the outcome as you continue to see good in your mind’s eye.

When you do this you are harmonizing a vibration that travels through energetic pathways. The vibrations help by giving people new ideas and they can also gain an inner strength to better deal with their situations.

Being in right relation with God does not mean tragedy will not happen. What it does mean is that we will experience a different reality because our alignment helps us see things differently.

At Unity of Lake Orion, we had to look at the crosses in right relation to God mind too. They have been there nearly 50 years with one nearly 50 feet tall. A few of us began to hold a positive solution in our mind’s eye. We shared the thought that the crosses are symbolic of the consciousness of humans.

In standing tall, our feet are grounded to the earth and we are aligned with earthly things. When we are in right relation with spiritual living our head reaches tall into the heavenly realms. As we reach out our hands or arms to help others or the planet, we are symbolically a cross ourselves. When we know the cross lives within us, then we know so too does the Christ energy live within us if we will only make the awareness of it!

With those thoughts in our consciousness we began thinking the crosses were there when the church was purchased. That meant we were to be aligned with ownership and care for them.

In right alignment to keeping the crosses, the painters for the job were found easily. Jon Ruggeri, owner of FreshCo Painting, said he would get the three crosses painted for us, which he did. That included sanding, priming, a new color of paint and they look great!

In life, as a spiritual walk, we work on ourselves every day. We are always open to new thought ideas that feel right for us to accept as our own.

My new spiritual thoughts on Unity’s three crosses?

One cross is for sins forgiven.

The second for crossing out our old ways of being when we have come into right relation with God mind.

And, the third cross, reminds me when we accept that Jesus came to show us the way and we become the way, as Jesus did, we can and do transform our lives.

Luke 9:23 (NLV) – Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”

Many blessings,
