The Oxford Varsity girls swim team lost to Utica Eisenhower 57-128 last Thursday.
Although they lost, the team is still pumped to host this weekend’s Flint Metro League tournament and move up in their standing.
The 200 medley relay team of sophomore Allison Woonton, senior Anna Bonfiglio, and freshmen Jenna Mallard and Anna Daves took 2nd Place, while senior Tara Nieboer dropped two seconds in the 200-frestyle for a new school record and a 4th Place finish.
Junior Caroline Kerbelis took 4th in the 200-IM; Daves took 3rd in the 50-freestyle, sophomore Kristen Simmers took 5th in the 50-freestyle; Woonton took 1st in the 500-freestyle; the 200-freestyle relay team of Mallard, Kerbelis, Daves and Woonton took 2nd and created a new school record.
Senior Jen Smillie came in 2nd and created a new school record for the 100-butterfly, while Mallard placed 2nd in the 100-freestyle, which she also created a new record for.
Sophomore Kara Charles placed 4th in the 100-backstroke; Bonfiglio placed 4th in the breaststroke and placed 2nd in diving; sophomore Lindsay Sutherland placed 3rd and sophomore Olivia Martin took 4th in diving.
The first FML tournament meet starts at 4 p.m. at OHS this Friday.
Diving preliminarys begin at 9 a.m. Saturday with the meet to follow shortly after.
The girls have a FML record of 3-2-1 and are currently tied for 3rd place in the league with Lapeer.
