Swimmers struggle to keep heads above water

The Oxford Varsity girls swim team is now 2-3-1 in the Flint Metro League after last weeks meets against Royal Oak Dondero, Brandon and Lapeer.
Last Tuesday, the girls took on Royal Oak, where they struggled to place in the top two. Oxford lost 64-122.
Sophomore Allison Woonton took 1st in the 200-IM and in the 100-backstroke.
Senior Tara Nieboer took 4th in the 200-freestyle, while freshman Sarah Skelton took 5th; freshman Jenna Mallard took 3rd in the 50-freestyle; sophomore Olivia Martin took 1st in the diving events.
Oxford foreign exchange student Andi Yang placed 3rd in the 100-breaststroke, while the 400-freestyle team of seniors Alexis Desotell, Jen Smillie, sophomore Jennie Sunman and freshman Anna Daves took 3rd place.
At Thursday’s double-dual meet, Oxford lost to Brandon 64-122 and beat Lapeer 97-89.
The 200-medley team of Woonton, senior Anna Bonfiglio, Mallard and Daves took 1st place; senior Tara Nieboer made a new school record of 2:24.17 in the 200-IM; Woonton placed 1st in the 200-IM.
Come cheer on the Oxford Varsity swim team Thursday night against Utica Eisenhower at 6 p.m. at home. It’s also senior recognition night.
