Swimmers stay afloat, build towards county meet

The Clarkston swim team is not quite treading water, but their progression so far has been slow. On Jan. 20, the Wolves dropped to 1-4 for the season, losing to Rochester Adams 97-86.
‘We are getting better, we’ve been swimming faster as the year has gone on,? said Clarkston Coach Kenwyn Chock.
There have been positives for the Wolves: Junior Mike Nelson qualified for the county meet in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.3), as has Sophomore Josh Badgerow in the 100 butterfly (:59.01).
‘We have about six more weeks until the county meet. We’ll be there,? said Chock.
Nelson and Badgerow, who both won their respective events, also helped the 200 medley relay take first place against Adams. Senior Andrew Riegel and junior Ryan Kurrle swam legs on the relay.
In addition, Nelson teamed with freshman Phil Voorheis and juniors John Wilson and Billy Petrusha to win the 200 freestyle relay.
Junior divers John Wilson and Blake Tereau finished one, two in the one meter diving competition.
The weather has made things a little tougher on the Wolves. Chock cancelled practice on Jan. 22 due to the massive amount of snow being dumped on Oakland County.
The Wolves meet against Lake Orion finished too late for this edition of The Clarkston News. Clarkston swims next on Jan. 27 at Hazel Park.
