The Wildcats? boys swim and dive team took on some of the best in the Oakland Activities Association’s Red and White Division during a double-duel meet on Thursday, Jan. 12.
North Farmington (Red division) and Farmington-Harrison (White division) visited Oxford High School and proved to be too much for the Wildcats to handle. North Farmington won 130-56, while Farmington-Harrison won 100-84.
Despite the losses, 24 personal bests were established by the boys during the meet.
‘The boys are continuing to improve and I was glad the boys had the opportunity to swim against two higher division teams,? varsity coach Jackie Rank said.
Individual results were:
200 Medley Relay – Oxford’s A relay of sophomore Blake Hibdon, sophomore Dwight Merrill, sophomore Erick Vandecar and senior Joey Tasch finished second against both teams with a time of 1:51.42.
200 Freestyle – Freshmen Cheyne Stresky was fourth against North Farmington and second against Farmington-Harrison. Sophomore Lewis Marshall and senior Sean Thomas also scored points for the Wildcats.
200 Individual Medley – Vandecar finished third against North Farmington and second against Farmington-Harrison in a school record time of 2:15.62. Tasch and freshmen Chad Scribner also took points for the Wildcats.
50 Freestyle – Junior Jarred Butler was second against both teams, finishing with a time of 23.15. With his times, Butler qualified for the Oakland County meet. Junior Corey Jones was fifth against both teams.
Diving – Oxford swept the top three spots, with senior Matthew Campagiorni finishing first with 189.60 points. Freshmen Jared Tasch was second and sophomore Marco Campagiorni finished third.
100 Butterfly – Vandecar was third against both teams, finishing with a time of 1:01.40. Hibdon also scored points for Oxford in the event.
100 Freestyle – Butler was first against Farmington-Harrison and second in North Farmington, finishing with a school record and state qualifying time of 50.16. Junior Nico McNeil was fifth against both teams.
500 Freestyle – Stresky was third against both teams with a personal best time of 5:26.52. Joey Tasch finished fourth against both teams and Marshall also scored points for the Wildcats.
200 Freestyle Relay – Oxford’s A relay of Thomas, Jones, McNeil and Butler came in third against North Farmington and second against Farmington-Harrison with a time of 1:40.35. The B relay of senior Daniel Stockard, Merrill, Scribner and sophomore Tim Cook was third against Farmington-Harrison.
100 Backstroke – Hibdon finished first against Farmington-Harrison and fourth against North Farmington with a time of 1:15.54. Scribner also earned points for Oxford.
400 Freestyle Relay – Oxford’s A relay of Tasch, Vandecar, Hibdon and Butler came in second against both teams, finishing in a 3:33.78.
Oxford drops to 3-2 overall (3-0 OAA Blue) with the losses. They swim at Southfield Lathrup on Thursday, Jan. 19.
