Brandon Twp.-Following selection of T.D. & Associates as the superintendent search firm to find a replacement for current school district superintendent Bart Jenniches, Terre Davis of T.D. and Associates presented the extensive plan to the board of eduction on Monday.
At a cost of $17,500 the board approved the Grand Rapids area-based firm to replace Jenniches, who announced his exit after nine years last summer. A new superintendent should be in place by March 15, 2005. Jenniches? last day is July 1, 2005.
As part of the search, T.D. & Associates conducted three public meetings regarding the characteristics the community is seeking in a new superintendent. The information gathered, which will exceed 12 pages regarding the superintendent, says Davis, will be submitted to the school board to compile a superintendent profile.
‘We had outstanding input’it’s a good pulse of the community,? said Davis. ‘It’s the best information the school board will ever get since’it’s anonymous.?
Other factors for the new superintendent were also approved by the board, including: a three year contract, North Central Accreditation, a master’s degree plus 30 hours of continuting education and a beginning salary of $120,000 per year. The requirement information will be posted at the local, state and national levels.
Current superintendents pay scale in the Flint Metro league schools which include Brandon, East Lapeer, Fenton, Linden, Holly, Oxford, and West Lapeer range from $109,000 (Linden) to $125,000 (Brandon).
Davis, who has conducted more than 100 searches says Brandon can expect about 35 resumes for the position.
‘A school district this size, you’ll see a lot of assistant superintendents applying,? said Davis. ‘With districts? smaller than 1,500 students you’ll receive more principals applying for the job.? Brandon has about 3,000 students enrolled.
At 6 p.m., Nov. 29 the board will decide on a superintendent profile after reviewing all the information from T.D. & Associates and post the job.
‘We the field of candidates. I hope the public will come, the more participation the better.
‘We want to be open to the community with this decision,? said Beth Nuccio, school board president. ‘I feel comfortable based on the process set by T.D. & Associates.?
All the interviews will be open to the public and begin in February 2005.
