Students leave school a garden

Students at Clarkston Elementary School ended their school year with a “SPLASH.”
In the school Academic Service Learning project, called Students Practice Learning And Service Here, students bought and planted flowers and trees, mulched, lay brick pavers, and installed a bench, all to beautify one of the school’s back entrances.
“The entrance was drab,” said Principal Dana Pennanen. “So many kids walk through there ? we wanted to improve it.”
Students in all grades worked on the SPLASH project, with planning, research, and physical labor.
“All kinds of activities took place,” Pennanen said.
Their Penny for a Plan collected $250 for the project, while providing a way for students to choose which landscape design to use.
The students plan to expand the garden with more trees and flowers, benches, lawn ornaments, and statues.
Donations can be sent to Radhika Issac, Clarkston Elementary, 6589 Waldon Road.
