Brandon Twp.- A high school student confessed to Oakland County deputies on Thursday of writing two bomb threats over the last week.
The first message scribed on a girls? restroom wall at the high school prompted a four day response from school officials and law enforcement. The note, ‘You’ll all die on May 5, a bomb will hit Brandon High School at 1 p.m.,? written in what appeared to be pink marker was discovered by a student at about 2 p.m., Thursday, May 1.
Parents were notified on Friday afternoon via the Alert Now system, and the school was swept with bomb-sniffing dog teams from the Michigan State Police and the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday afternoon. A deputy was then posted at the school until Monday morning, when staff arrived at about 6 a.m.
The high school was cleared of students and staff when the fire alarm sounded at approximately 12:50 p.m. Monday and the high school was evacuated for about 15 minutes.
‘The students exited the school very quickly,? said Detective Arnie Terrell, school liaison officer. ‘We had several individuals of interest regarding the first threat. We also were using handwriting analysis in the investigation.?
A second bomb threat was reported at the high school on Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., also in a girls? restroom, and written with a purple marker. The second note read, ‘Still gonna be a bomb. Soon any day it will come. I hate all you m—–f——-!? was reported to high school vice principal Jerry Warner.
Once again, the school was searched on Wednesday afternoon by bomb dog teams from the Michigan State Police and the Oakland County Sheriff’s office. When students arrived for school on Thursday morning, they were instructed to leave their bags in the hallway and meet for a school assembly in the gymnasium while the articles were searched.
Deputies released the students, who picked-up their bags and returned to class.
The 14-year-old female ninth grade student that confessed to the bomb threats was one of four students of interest eyed by school officials.
Terrell said the girl was new to the school and had been enrolled at Waterford Mott High School before coming to Brandon. The girl had been in a fight at a local bus stop and was currently on probation from the Oakland County Children’s Court.
‘She was released to her father,? said Terrell.
